Wednesday 8 November 2000
We are now in open water and tacking to preserve some stability especially with heavily laden decks. Gordon deployed the Continuous Plankton Recorder at 0900. We expect to arrive at Heard Island on Thursday Afternoon. Preparations are well in hand.

As we leave Antarctica it is a good time to tell you about glaciers and icebergs and similar things we have seen on this voyage – see the special report "Glaciers and Continental Ice".
